With little more than a week until Highland Business Awards 2023, we’ll be featuring some guest blogs from our generous sponsors! Read on to hear from Trudy Morris, Chief Executive of Caithness Chamber of Commerce, as she reflects on the inspiring resilience of Highland businesses.
Each year I am impressed and renewed by the diversity and ingenuity within the applications submitted to the Highland Business Awards, and this year was indeed no exception. The Highlands are renowned for innovation and flexibility in approach to business, but, within the current climate, it’s tougher than ever to establish and run a business.
The last few years have seen unprecedented challenges and uncertainty for businesses across all sizes and sectors. Operating successfully within the current climate is increasingly challenging, so sponsorship of the Business Award for Resilience feels incredibly poignant. The Award recognises not only a business’s ability to adapt and pivot to changing and challenging environments but also its strength in delivering on its objectives to not only survive but prosper.
Awards give us time for pause and reflection, to acknowledge our successes and to take the opportunity to see how far we have come. It is a great privilege to follow the journeys of many of the former award winners and support their businesses to flourish and evolve as they face the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Resilience is a word that springs to mind when we look at how our members and the wider business community have dealt with the many challenges of the past year. Businesses have been through difficult times before and as a chamber community, we face these challenges head-on. We have learnt that we are stronger together and that’s particularly important for a business membership as diverse as ours across the Highlands.
Our mission continues to be to nurture a successful, sustainable and varied North Highland economy. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the very best of Highland businesses and showcase the innovation, ambition, and unique skills portfolio of our region. Awards are not the only marker of success, but certainly, they are signifiers of excellence and indeed reason to celebrate.
