Member of the Week: United Infrastructure – Part 2

This week, we’re delighted to hand the blog over to United Infrastructure, a UK-based infrastructure services company that recently opened its new office in Alness, a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to supporting SSEN Transmission’s major investment in the north of Scotland’s electricity network. Find out more in part 2 of the blog.

One of our most significant recent milestones has been the opening of our office in Alness, giving us a permanent presence in the Highlands and allowing us to place truly local teams at the heart of our operations.

Having a base within the region enables us to build and maintain close, collaborative relationships with community leaders, local authorities, landowners, businesses, and our supply chain partners. By being part of the local community, we are better positioned to listen, respond, and work together to address the needs and priorities of the areas in which we operate.

These relationships are fundamental to the way we work. Through open communication and genuine engagement, we can continue to build on the trust and respect that United Infrastructure has established across the Highlands.

Our aim is to ensure that every project is delivered responsibly, with careful consideration given to local communities, the environment, and the unique natural beauty that makes the Highlands such a special place.

We recognise that infrastructure projects must do more than simply deliver technical outcomes. They must be carried out in a way that respects the people, landscapes, and heritage of the areas they affect.

By maintaining a strong local presence and working closely with stakeholders, we can ensure that community interests remain at the forefront of our decision-making and that the benefits of investment are shared across the region.

The opening of our Alness office represents more than just a new location; it demonstrates our long-term commitment to the Highlands and our determination to be an active and positive partner in supporting the region’s future.

Our clients and customers value the importance we place on the people and communities affected by our work. We recognise that successful project delivery is not only about engineering excellence. It is also about building trust, maintaining open communication, and ensuring local people feel informed and engaged throughout the process. We invest significant time and effort in listening to concerns, providing clear information about our activities, and working collaboratively to address any issues that may arise. This approach is valued by both our clients and customers because it gives them confidence that projects will be delivered responsibly and with a positive impact on the communities in which we operate.

What sets us apart is our deep connection to the Highlands. A large proportion of our workforce lives locally, giving us a genuine understanding of the region, its people, and its values. This local knowledge helps us to remain respectful, considerate, and accountable in everything we do.

Our employees take great pride in the communities they call home, and their insight helps ensure that local perspectives are always reflected in our decision-making. As a result, we are able to deliver projects that not only meet the needs of our clients and customers but also respect the communities, environment, and heritage of the Highlands.

By combining technical expertise with a strong commitment to community engagement, we aim to create lasting positive outcomes and leave a legacy that local people can be proud of.

Our key priorities for the future include working closely with the Chamber to strengthen relationships with local businesses, organisations, and communities. By building these partnerships, we can deliver projects efficiently and effectively while ensuring the needs and interests of local people remain at the heart of everything we do.

In the near future, we will also be proactively supporting our client in the Section 37 and Public Local Inquiry process. Throughout this process, we will communicate openly about the scope of the project, anticipated timescales, environmental considerations, and the measures being taken to minimise impacts wherever possible. Protecting the natural beauty, heritage, and character of the Highlands is a responsibility we take seriously, and we are committed to delivering essential infrastructure in a way that respects the unique environment and communities of the region.

By maintaining transparent communication and a collaborative approach, we hope to build confidence in our plans and ensure that the long-term benefits of these projects are realised for both current and future generations.

Being part of the Chamber community has provided valuable opportunities to build meaningful business relationships, raise our profile, and stay connected with the local business landscape. Through networking events, knowledge-sharing sessions, and collaborative initiatives, we’ve been able to expand our professional network, identify new opportunities, and gain insights that have helped support our growth. The Chamber has also given us a platform to showcase our work, strengthen partnerships, and feel part of a supportive business community that is committed to shared success.

My advice would be to get involved as much as possible. Attend networking events regularly, take advantage of training and development opportunities, and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to new people. The more visible and engaged you are, the more value you’ll gain from your membership.

It’s also worth making use of the Chamber’s wider network and resources. Building genuine relationships, sharing your expertise, and supporting other members can often lead to unexpected opportunities, collaborations, and referrals. Chamber membership is what you make of it, so being proactive and open to new connections is key.
