Our aim is to improve the communities in which we work, address industry skills shortages through specialist training and workforce development, and work with local groups to ensure we bring lasting value to those areas.
Meet Project Director, Jim Csöppü
My name is Jim Csöppü, and I am the Project Director for United Infrastructure on the ASTI Framework.
My role is to oversee our work across the Highlands, helping to deliver critical infrastructure that will strengthen the region’s energy security while creating opportunities for future investment and development. The ASTI Framework is focused on ensuring a reliable energy network for generations to come, while delivering projects in a way that respects both government priorities and the needs of local communities.
There are two key aspects to my role. The first is managing the day-to-day delivery of our projects and ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. The second is working with our senior leadership team to develop the strategies and partnerships needed to make these projects a success.
Just as importantly, I am committed to engaging with the communities affected by our work. We understand that infrastructure projects can have a significant impact on local areas, and it is essential that people feel informed, listened to, and involved throughout the process. Our aim is not only to deliver vital energy infrastructure, but also to ensure local communities see lasting benefits from the investment being made in the region.
I am uniquely positioned to support this work through my extensive experience in the infrastructure sector across the Highlands, combined with my service in the Royal Engineers. During my time in the Army, I worked closely with local communities to ensure their interests were considered throughout operations. That experience, together with my knowledge of the Highlands and its people, has given me a deep understanding of the importance of balancing project delivery with community engagement.
I am proud to be leading this work and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships across the Highlands as we deliver infrastructure that will support the region’s future for many years to come.
One thing many people may not know about our business is that, despite changes in ownership over the years, our roots in the Highlands stretch back more than a century. UI Power T&D origins date back to the late 1800s, and since then we have played a role in delivering power solutions across the region. For well over 100 years, our work has helped bring essential energy infrastructure to Highland communities, supporting homes, businesses, and economic growth.
That long history is reflected in the people who work for us. Until recently, two members of our team had more than 50 years of service with the business, and many others have 25 years or more. That level of commitment is something we are incredibly proud of. It demonstrates our investment in local people and the loyalty that our colleagues continue to show to the company and the communities we serve.
Because so many of our employees live and work in the Highlands, our projects are rooted in a genuine understanding of the area, its heritage, and its unique natural environment.
We recognise how important it is to protect what makes the Highlands special while delivering the infrastructure needed for the future, and this local connection extends throughout our leadership team. Our Operational Senior Project Manager, a Scot himself, has worked in the Highlands for 15 years. The insight and experience he brings, together with the knowledge of our wider team, helps ensure that community interests remain at the heart of our decision-making. It allows us to approach every project with an understanding of local priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
As we continue to deliver vital energy infrastructure through the ASTI Framework, we remain committed to working collaboratively with communities, listening to local concerns, and ensuring that the benefits of investment are felt across the Highlands for years to come.
