UK top 50 and leading Scottish law firm Brodies LLP has again been recognised for its advice to clients on high value personal and family matters in the latest edition of the Chambers UK High Net Worth Guide.
The firm achieves a band 2 ranking in a new UK-wide category for landed estates, and also moves up to band 3 for UK-wide family/matrimonial finance.
Brodies retains its status as a national leader outside London and maintains its band 1 rankings for private wealth disputes in Scotland, and private wealth law in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Earlier this month, the firm was named ‘Out-of-London Practice of the Year’ at the Chambers High Net Worth Awards, for its expertise in providing advice to clients on high-value personal and family matters.
Mark Stewart (pictured), partner and head of Brodies’ personal and family practice, said: “We’re pleased to be recognised again in the latest High Net Worth Guide, which is testament to the quality of service we provide to clients across Scotland and the UK. With a rise in private wealth disputes and significant forthcoming changes for UK inheritance tax rules, clients have multiple factors to consider in their estate planning and are seeking out our expertise to provide clarity and pragmatic solutions.
“Over the past year we’ve continued to invest in growing and developing our team, which in turn benefits our clients. That includes the promotion of private client lawyers Stewart Gibson and Nadine Walton to partner level, and increasing our firm’s total number of STEP-qualified practitioners to 24.”
Brodies lawyers achieved 12 individual rankings in this year’s HNW guide, with private client partner Norman Kennedy moving up to band 1 alongside Mark Stewart and Susanne Batchelor, who retain their top rankings for private wealth law in Aberdeen, and Edinburgh and Glasgow, respectively.
Richard Pike remains at band 1 for private wealth disputes in Scotland, while Nick Marshall moves up to band 2 for private wealth law in Aberdeen and Hayley Robertson gains a new band 4 ranking for the same category for Glasgow and Edinburgh.
In the UK-wide category of family and matrimonial finance, Shaun George retains a band 3 recognition.
Partner Lisa Girdwood, who leads the firm’s family law practice, added: “Family lawyers continue to adapt to significant societal change and that is reflected in the nature and complexity of the matters upon which our clients seek advice. Their instructions often include cross-border elements and international complexities, which impact on divorce, dissolution and separation. In addition, these issues affect the increasing number of couples who choose to cohabit.
“We thank our clients for continuing to trust us in guiding them to solutions that work best for their families and their unique circumstances.”
