The Ledge Climbing Wall, Inverness’s community-focused climbing charity, is pleased to announce the appointment of three new voluntary Trustees to its Board, marking an exciting new chapter in the organisation’s continued growth and impact across the Highlands.
John Housego, Amanda MacNeil, and Eilidh Alexander join the Board at a pivotal time as the charity builds on its success as a leading centre for climbing, wellbeing, and community engagement.
Founded as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, The Ledge is dedicated to changing lives through climbing, creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to build confidence, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and feel part of a supportive community.
Since opening its doors in Inverness in 2023, The Ledge has established itself as more than just a climbing facility. As the Highlands’ largest climbing gym and a national bouldering and performance centre, it offers a welcoming, inclusive space designed to help individuals identify and achieve their goals, whether they are complete beginners or experienced climbers.
Central to the charity’s mission is its commitment to social impact. Through targeted programmes, The Ledge works with young people, those at risk, and other underserved groups, using climbing as a tool to develop resilience, life skills, and positive outcomes.
The addition of three new Trustees brings valuable expertise and fresh perspectives to support this mission, strengthening governance and helping guide the organisation’s long-term sustainability and community reach.
CEO of The Ledge, Marc Peart, said “I’m delighted to welcome our new trustees, whose experience, energy and commitment will help strengthen the future of The Ledge Climbing wall. Their appointment reflects our ambition as a charity, to create a climbing wall that supports people to find a sense of self and place, to widen access to climbing, support our community and build on the positive impact the charity already makes. We look forward to working with them as we continue creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to benefit from climbing.”
The recruitment of new Trustees follows a successful campaign inviting individuals with skills in areas such as finance, community engagement, and youth work to help shape the future of the charity. The new Board members will play a key role in ensuring The Ledge continues to deliver on its vision of being a safe, inclusive and inspiring space where people can connect, grow, and thrive.
As The Ledge looks ahead, the strengthened Board will support the charity in expanding its programmes, deepening its impact within the local community, and continuing to provide access to world-class climbing facilities for the Highlands and beyond.
