Project key part in connecting proposed Coire Glas Pumped Hydro Scheme
SSEN Transmission is inviting members of the public to view updated proposals for a new substation at Loch Lundie, near Invergarry, as part of a project which will connect the proposed Coire Glas Pumped Hydro Scheme to the electricity network.
The Coire Glas connection project involves building a new 400kV substation at Loch Lundie, which will play a key part in transporting clean renewable electricity to the national grid. Members of the public are invited to view updated proposals for the new substation and share any comments, which will help shape the final design of the project.
The pre-application consultation event for the proposed substation will also show the updated Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) boundary area for the project, which includes suitable areas to incorporate all necessary works to construct and operate the infrastructure, including access tracks, landscape planting and screening, drainage and fencing.
Many of these requirements will be temporary during the construction phase and will be permanently removed upon completion of the project.
The event follows on from earlier engagement events carried out earlier this year and provides an opportunity for teams to present an updated PAN boundary area.
The consultation event will be held at Glengarry Community Hall in Invergarry on Wednesday 20 August from 3pm-7pm and anyone interested in the project is welcome to attend.
Project team members will be on hand to answer any questions and share more details about the proposals.
Sally Cooper, Community Liaison Manager for Coire Glas Connection project, said: “We’re hosting a pre-application consultation event to share more details about the proposed Loch Lundie Substation, as well as highlight the wider PAN boundary for the proposed project.
“The PAN outlines the temporary development boundary for the proposed substation, and highlights the areas set aside for temporary site compounds, laydown and storage areas for materials, as well as any landscaping proposals.
“Loch Lundie Substation will play a major role in the wider connection of the proposed Coire Glas Pumped Hydro Scheme, which in turn will help provide homegrown low-carbon electricity needed to deliver UK and Scottish clean power and energy security targets.
“As a stakeholder led business we want to work with the local community as this project develops, and we encourage anyone with an interest in the Loch Lundie Substation or wider Coire Glas Connection Project to come along to our consultation event in Invergarry and find out more.”
