North of Scotland Family Lawyer Achieves Triple Accreditation

A north of Scotland family lawyer has reached a new milestone by achieving triple accreditation in family law. Accreditation by the Law Society of Scotland is awarded to lawyers who demonstrate distinction in family law.

Laura McLean, a partner in the family law team at Harper Macleod, based in Elgin and supporting clients across the north of Scotland, is now an accredited specialist in Family Mediation alongside her existing accreditations in Family Law and Child Law.

Laura’s achievement reflects the broader success of Harper Macleod’s family law team which includes 10 dedicated lawyers, six of whom are partners, and collectively hold 14 accreditations from the Law Society of Scotland across Family Law, Child Law, and Family Mediation. With five accredited family mediation partners located across the north of Scotland, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, the team is ideally positioned to meet the increasing demand for alternatives to court proceedings.

With offices located across Scotland, Harper Macleod represents clients in 32 of the country’s 39 sheriff courts and has handled 18 private family law actions in the Court of Session over the past year. The firm’s expertise extends beyond traditional family law matters, advising on issues such as family creation through fertility treatment or adoption, cross border cases, and complex matters involving high net worth individuals.

Commenting on her triple accreditation, Laura said:

“This accreditation is a positive achievement and will allow me greater opportunity to help individuals who seek a more constructive and positive separation process. Mediation offers a process which gives control to the separating couple in a non-adversarial setting.

“I am grateful to be part of a team that is so committed to working with families through some of the most challenging times in their lives. As a team, we continue to learn and grow so we can ensure that our clients receive the support and advice they need.

“We are seeing that many families wish to resolve their differences without the need to go to court. Mediation offers an alternative to contentious court procedures and allows a separating couple to retain their decision-making power.

Chris Kerr, lead partner for the north of Scotland at Harper Macleod, said:

“Laura’s continued success in family law reflects the firm’s ongoing commitment to excellence and development from within. We’re especially proud of the depth of expertise we have built in the north of Scotland, which plays a key role in our recognition as one of the country’s leading family law practices.”

Last year, Harper Macleod celebrated its 20th anniversary of opening its Inverness office. It has the largest team of lawyers in the north of Scotland, providing advice to a wide range of businesses, organisations, individuals and families.
