Member of the Week – Saffery: Part 1

This week we’re celebrating Saffery! Founded in 1855, Saffery is a national accountancy firm with over 1200 partners and staff across nine offices in the UK. In Part 1 of their blog, learn more about the firm and hear from Head of Inverness Office Coll Murchison-MacDonald about their commitment to the Highlands.

About Saffery

In the UK, Saffery is the 15th largest accountancy firm by fee income, meaning our clients can access specialists when they need them, but we are still small enough to provide a personal service where our clients are valued. Overseas, Saffery is represented in Cayman, Guernsey, Geneva, Zurich, Dublin and Dubai. We provide our clients with a full range of services which include accountancy, audit, tax and VAT advice. We also provide specialist expertise in areas such as payroll, trusts, and sustainability and ESG. We additionally provide our clients with transactional services through our national corporate finance team. As well as the standard compliance for tax returns and accounts, being a partner-led and people-focused firm is our signature Saffery style.

Meet Coll Murchison-MacDonald

I am a partner based in our Inverness office, and I was appointed Head of Office in 2019. I am a native Gaelic speaker originally from the Isle of Skye and I specialise in advising individuals and families on their private wealth matters, as well as assisting business owners and entrepreneurs across various sectors at all stages of their business life cycle.

As a firm deeply rooted in the Highlands, we are proud to be a part of this thriving business community and are committed to supporting the continued success of our clients here. While other firms may be reducing their presence, we are actively expanding our team and investing in local talent, providing opportunities for professionals in the region to grow and develop their careers.

The Inverness Team

Saffery’s Inverness office is home to five partners and over 80 staff. The team cover all the major accounting and tax disciplines including accounts, audit, tax, and compliance and advisory services for businesses, individuals, partnerships, and trusts in the Highlands and across the UK.

Our team in Inverness is highly regarded in the rural sector for their expertise, however we also support a variety of clients across a range of sectors. Our clients are involved in many areas of the Highland economy and in many instances, we provide a tailor-made service for all aspects of their business’ needs. We also work with our national corporate finance team on acquisition support, including financial and tax due diligence services.

Our Inverness office is a welcoming and inclusive place to work. The office’s Great Place to Work feedback is extremely positive, but we take all feedback seriously and look for continuous improvement in all areas to make the office a place the team can be proud of being part of, and where they feel they belong. We have also joined the Breaking Down Barriers to Accountancy initiative to drive social mobility in accountancy.

Keep your eyes peeled for Part 2 of Saffery’s blog to learn about their 2025 plans and their top-tips for Chamber membership!
