Kishorn Port and Dry Dock £24m Scottish Government boost set to ‘power Highland economy’ and bring last benefits to local communities, says Maree Todd MSP

A revived Wester Ross industrial port is set to power the Highland economy and bring “real, lasting benefits to local communities” after a £24 million Scottish Government investment.

That is the view of Highland MSP Maree Todd, following Tuesday’s visit to Kishorn Port, one of Europe’s largest dry docks.

The visit followed Scottish Government confirmation of the investment, to be delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), to fund the port’s expansion and significantly boost its capacity and capabilities.

Planned works include the expansion of the dry dock and land reclamation to support the manufacture of floating offshore wind foundations.

Once fully developed, the upgraded facilities are expected to attract large-scale projects, with the potential to support up to 1500 jobs – bringing a major economic boost to the area and wider region.

The Scottish Government has, in all, committed up to £500 million over five years to develop Scotland’s ports and offshore wind supply chain.

Ms Todd said: “This investment is a major milestone, not just for Kishorn Port but for the economic future of Wester Ross and the wider Highlands.

“The funding is a clear vote of confidence from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Scottish Government in both the port’s strategic value and its growing role in Scotland’s green economy.

“This investment promises to bring real, lasting benefits to local communities in creating a substantial number of high-quality jobs that will boost the local economy, support families, and help keep skilled workers living and working in the Highlands.

“Massive congratulations to (Kishorn Port Ltd group managing director) Alasdair Ferguson and his team this investment is a testament to their vision, hard work, and determination.

“They’re creating opportunities, delivering jobs, and firmly establishing the Highlands as a key player in industrial innovation and renewable energy.”
