Last week, Inverness Chamber of Commerce members were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the region’s most dynamic energy businesses as our latest Inside Stories event took place at Aurora Energy Services.
From the moment attendees stepped into the company’s state-of-the-art training facility, it was clear they were in the presence of a serious industry player. With a turnover of £110 million and a global footprint spanning Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia, Aurora Energy Services is at the forefront of supporting the energy transition towards renewables. Their internationally approved renewables, safety and technical training centre is designed to equip professionals with the skills and certifications required to work safely in the energy sector – whether they are new entrants with no prior experience or seasoned technicians and operators looking to advance their careers.
A key theme of the evening was safety – and the powerful responsibility that comes with working in the sector. Aurora’s GWO, IRATA, ECITB, ITC First and EUSR accredited courses provide practical, hands-on training in real-world conditions, ensuring that every individual is prepared not just to do their job, but to protect their colleagues. The buddy-system approach, where workers rely on one another in high-risk environments, resonated strongly with attendees. The message was simple yet profound: the person you work alongside every day could one day save your life.

Members witnessed this commitment to safety first-hand through a fascinating first-aid demonstration – a particular highlight for Chamber Chief Executive Colin Marr – as well as a dramatic wind turbine rescue simulation that brought the realities of offshore and onshore renewables work to life. These practical demonstrations underlined Aurora’s ethos that training must be done right, every time.
The event also shone a light on Aurora’s strong support for veterans transitioning from the armed forces into the renewables sector. The company is currently delivering an intensive training programme for military veterans, complete with guaranteed interviews for successful applicants. More broadly, Aurora is focused on creating clear, transparent pathways for all trainees – outlining upfront costs, required certifications and future upskilling routes so individuals fully understand both the investment and the opportunities ahead.
Paula Nicol, Head of Events and Deputy Chief Executive of Inverness Chamber of Commerce, said, “Inside Stories is all about opening doors and giving our members genuine insight into the businesses shaping our regional economy. Aurora Energy Services delivered exactly that. From their global reach to their unwavering focus on safety and skills development, it was an inspiring evening that showcased the strength and ambition within our energy sector.”

Feedback from members reflected the impact of the visit.
Clare Lock of Clockstudio commented, “It was brilliant to get a behind-the-scenes look at Aurora Energy Services – a company new to me. The team were really welcoming, the safety demos were informative (with plenty of time for questions), and there were great networking opportunities throughout the evening. It was valuable to reconnect with people I’d met before and make new contacts, and the attendee list in advance was really helpful.”
Seumas Skinner, Community Liaison Manager at Statkraft, added, “It was great to visit Aurora Energy Services and to find out more about the important work they are doing to support the energy sector. The training they provide is incredibly important in making sure every energy worker makes it home safely every day. Inside Stories are a great way to make new business connections and to understand the challenges and opportunities facing local businesses.”
