“A welcoming successful green sustainable city at the heart of a thriving Highlands”. I imagine that there are few of us who would disagree that this sums up our aspirations for the future of the city of Inverness. That is the overarching aim of the Inverness 2035 document that has been prepared through a group led by Drew Hendry MP. That vision, integrated with the Council’s City Centre Strategy will shortly be the subject of further engagement with the business community and the public throughout the city.
Inverness has seen a great deal of both private and public sector investment over the last few years, despite all of the challenges we have faced. New hotels, the Ness Hydro, new housing in the city centre which are making use of underused buildings, Inverness Campus developments, streetscape improvements, new and improved green spaces and active travel routes and private sector led hospitality investments are all the signs of an ambitious city. With projects like the Victorian Market redevelopment, the Inverness Castle redevelopment as well as the Northern Meeting Park and Bught Park upgrades now well underway, it is really important we lift our eyes to the horizon to where future investment should be directed.
Only by continued partnership between all levels of government, business representative bodies, businesses themselves and the wider community will we ensure continued progress to deliver against the vision and strategy, so please make your voice heard and contribute to the debate as further engagement happens later this year!
