Guest Blog: Keeping The Ice Alive – A Cool Opportunity For Local Businesses

By Gordon Barron, CEO, Inverness Ice Centre

It’s been a tough year for community ice rinks, and the recent announcement of Elgin Ice Rink’s closure on August 4th struck a particularly emotional chord. Like many in our community, we were saddened by the news — a stark reminder of the growing challenges faced by facilities like ours here at the Inverness Ice Centre.

Soaring energy costs are making it increasingly difficult to keep the ice frozen and our doors open. Earlier this year, we reached out to our members for support — and the response was nothing short of incredible. Volunteers came forward in force, reaffirming what we’ve always known: the Ice Centre isn’t just a rink. It’s a community hub — a place where families gather, athletes train, and lifelong memories are made.

Now, we’re inviting local businesses to be part of something truly special:

In-Ice Advertising – Your Logo, Literally Under the Ice

That’s right — we’re embedding sponsor logos into the ice surface.

This unique form of sponsorship ensures your brand is seen by thousands of skaters, hockey players, curlers, spectators, and visitors throughout the season. It’s a creative way to get your business noticed while supporting the long-term sustainability of a vital community resource.

We’re offering two placement options:

  • Curling House Placement
Circular logo with contact details, featured prominently in the centre of a curling house.
  • General Ice Placement
Rectangular or square logo positioned in high-visibility areas, such as near the rink entrance or player benches.

Availability is limited and spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
To secure your spot, please confirm your interest by 15th August, giving us time to finalise artwork and prepare the ice ahead of the new season in September.

We’d be incredibly grateful if you could help spread the word. This is a fantastic opportunity to support grassroots sport and promote your business in a truly unique setting.  enquiries@inverness-ice-centre.co.uk

Thank you for your continued support — and for helping us keep the ice alive.
