Guest Blog: Help Shape the Future of The Ledge Climbing Wall

The Ledge Climbing Wall is seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the next stage of our journey as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). Our Charity climbing wall provides a safe, inclusive, and inspiring space for people of all ages and abilities to get active, build confidence, and develop a sense of place through climbing. As we continue to grow our impact, we’re looking for individuals who can bring their skills, insight, and enthusiasm to our Board.

What We’re Looking For

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance and accounting – supporting sound financial oversight and sustainability.
  • Working with young people – understanding youth engagement, safeguarding, and inclusion.
  • Charity, Social Enterprise or community sector experience – familiarity with the opportunities and challenges facing charities and social enterprises in Scotland including the funding environment.
  • Governance and leadership – ideally with prior experience on a board or management committee.
  • Highland Based – ideally highland based and able to attend meetings.

An understanding of the role and responsibilities of a charity trustee within the OSCR framework is essential as is ability to both support and appropriately challenge, to ensure the charity operates in line with its purposes, complies with the law, and uses its resources effectively. (See the OSCR Guidance for Charity Trustees for more information: www.oscr.org.uk/guidance-and-forms/trustee-duties)

There is no requirement to be a climber, but there is a requirement to be committed to a project that intends, through climbing, to deliver benefits for the community of Inverness and wider Highlands. This means attending most meetings whether in person or virtually and contributing to all activities of the board.

What’s Involved

As a Trustee, you’ll:

  • Attend regular Board meetings (Currently every 2 months).
  • Contribute to strategic planning, governance, and decision-making.
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity and its values.
  • Support our staff and volunteers to deliver safe, inclusive, high-quality climbing opportunities.
  • Have Access to the Ledge Climbing Wall and Gym.

This is a voluntary position and is subject to protection of vulnerable groups checks.

It offers a rewarding chance to make a tangible difference to your community and be part of an energetic and passionate team supporting and having a positive impact through climbing and the outdoors.
