Fortrose Care Home Earns ‘Very Good’ Rating For Warm And Compassionate Care

A Highland care home has been rated ‘Very Good’ across all key areas in its latest inspection by the Care Inspectorate.

The unannounced inspection at Eilean Dubh in Fortrose highlighted significant strengths in the quality of care, leadership and facilities.

The report praised the home for creating a “warm, compassionate” environment where staff worked well together to support residents. Inspectors noted that the care home provided “a setting which was homely, comfortable and accessible.”

During the three-day inspection, the Care Inspectorate spoke to residents, their loved ones, employees and management, and visiting professionals.

The inspection evaluated the care home based on five key criteria: supporting residents’ wellbeing, leadership, staff, the care setting and care and support planning. Each category received a grade of 5 (Very Good) on the Care Inspectorate’s six-point scale.

Eilean Dubh’s strong community connections were highlighted, with a range of activities fostering relationships with local schools, nurseries and community groups.

The report noted that Eilean Dubh’s care planning was outcomes-focussed, ensuring residents’ needs and preferences were central to their care.  Personal care plans were deemed to be of “a very good quality.”

The report also highlighted the introduction of a keyworker system, which supports personalised care for each resident. Keyworkers ensure residents’ personal needs are met, maintain communication with families and actively participate in care reviews.

The report noted that staff “understood their roles and responsibilities,” were “motivated to do well in their roles” and had built up “confident and positive interactions and relationships.”

It added: “Staff worked well together, and this created a warm atmosphere within the care home. People experienced warm, compassionate support from staff because they worked well together.”

The home’s leadership, management and effective communication were also recognised as key strengths.

Alexis Le Neven, manager of Eilean Dubh, said: “This report reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Eilean Dubh. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact of our efforts in creating a safe, supportive environment where residents can thrive. We are committed to maintaining these high standards.”

Ron Taylor, managing director of operator Parklands Care Homes said: “I am absolutely delighted that all three of our Ross-shire homes – in Fortrose, Muir of Ord and Tain – have now received a ‘Very Good’ grade from the Care Inspectorate. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our incredible teams across these homes. It’s an exciting milestone, and we remain committed to delivering outstanding care every day.”
