Fairtrade Fortnight Inverness

From 22 September until 5 October, Fairtrade groups across the country will be showcasing the benefits of Fairtrade and encouraging us all to “Do it Fair!”.  Everywhere people will be celebrating the difference we can make when we choose Fairtrade and campaign as part of a UK wide movement calling for fairer systems behind the things we consume every day.

Every time you choose Fairtrade, you are acting in solidarity with farmers who grow your food. Fairtrade means producers receive a fairer price, can afford to feed their families, send their children to school, and cover their farming costs.

Over three decades, 10 million people – farmers, workers and their families – have been guaranteed a fair wage and thanks to the extra Social Premium, built healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities, with improved choice and better life chances through access to healthcare and education. They have responded to climate crises by investing in better farming practices.

Within the UK there are over 500 Fairtrade groups and Inverness Fairtrade is one such organisation which aims to publicise the important role Fairtrade can play in supporting farmers in the global south and ensuring we can access fairly the tea, coffee, sugar, chocolate and so many other products we so enjoy.

This Fairtrade Fortnight take part in Fairtrade Coffee mornings and community events, you’ll see the Ness Bridge light up in characteristic Fairtrade Green and Blue colours, showcasing Fairtrade products in several cafes and spreading the word where we can.  But we want to do more and welcome your involvement.

This Fairtrade Fortnight, and beyond, we encourage business to help spread the word, buying or selling Fairtrade products or encouraging your workplace to have a Fairtrade tea or coffee break. Together, let’s find new ways of promoting Inverness as a Fairtrade City. For more information, please contact www.fairtradeinverness.org or email on invernessfairtrade@gmail.com .
