Dynamic Duo Look For Fellow Daredevils To Join Charity Abseil Challenge

The Archie Foundation looks to recruit further thrill-seekers for charity abseil challenge

A father and son duo, who will be tackling a charity abseil at the iconic Dunrobin Castle, in Golspie, have called for more daredevils to join their upcoming challenge as they seek to raise funds for The Archie Foundation.

Neil McGregor, Business Development and Fundraising Manager – Highlands at The Archie Foundation, will be joined by his son, Murray, for the abseil event on Saturday, September 27, which will see all proceeds raised go towards delivering vital support and services to babies, children, and families across Grampian, Tayside and the Highlands.

Neil shared his anticipation of the event and encouraged anyone who was looking for a challenge to sign up to join.

He said, “I would never ask anyone to take on a challenge that I wouldn’t be prepared to do myself, and this abseil marks the first in a series of fundraisers I’m undertaking. I am thrilled to be joined by my son as we descend from Dunrobin Castle’s tallest tower, all in the name of raising funds for The Archie Foundation.

“All donations collected at The Archie Foundation’s charity abseils, and all of our other fundraising activities, go such a long way in supporting us to continue delivering vital services for babies, children and their families in across Grampian, Tayside and the Highlands.”

This will be the final opportunity to abseil from the castle, making it a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sharing his own experiences of his son’s premature birth, which was before The Archie Foundation’s support was available in Tayside, Neil expressed how he believes the charity makes a fundamental difference in the lives of new parents facing difficult circumstances.

He said, “My son Murray was born in 2007, more than 12 weeks premature. He was born in Elgin and transferred via ambulance to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. For 10 weeks, we watched Murray in an incubator, travelling up and down to visit him, which was incredibly difficult, but support from family, employers and Ninewells Hospital at least made it possible.”

“I know all too well how important the services that The Archie Foundation offers are, and I am delighted that the funds we raise during this event will go towards supporting families when they need it most. I am honoured that Murray, now 18, is joining me for this abseil challenge and we encourage anyone looking to scale new heights to raise funds for charity to please register to participate today.”

Registration for the abseil costs £50, and participants are encouraged to fundraise for The Archie Foundation through their own fundraising pages. Spaces are limited to 50, with a waiting list available once capacity is reached.

All equipment and expert guidance for the abseil challenge will be provided by the experienced team at Active Outdoor Pursuits.
