Inverness Chamber of Commerce was delighted to take part in Royal Bank of Scotland’s ‘Scotland Board on the Road’ visit to the Highlands this week. Chamber Chief Executive Colin Marr had the opportunity to present directly to the Scotland Board, offering a comprehensive overview of the region’s economic landscape, business environment, and future opportunities.
During his presentation, Colin provided insights into the work of Inverness Chamber, highlighted key economic trends in the Highlands, and explored the transformative potential of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and other projects. He also addressed the region’s challenges and opportunities, including the need for investment in housing, skills, transport, and infrastructure to support inclusive and sustainable growth.
Speaking after the session, Colin said, “It was a privilege to speak with the Scotland Board and share the story of our region – not just the economic data, but the real potential we have here in the Highlands. From major investment opportunities through the Green Freeport to the critical importance of supporting our future workforce via partnerships and Developing the Young Workforce, there is a genuine sense of momentum. I’m grateful to Royal Bank of Scotland for taking the time to engage meaningfully with the local business community.”
The Scotland Board, made up of senior leaders from Royal Bank of Scotland’s customer-facing and central business functions, visited Inverness to celebrate the official opening of the bank’s newly transformed branch at Falcon Square. The £2.5 million investment has created a modern, accessible space designed to better serve local customers and support wider community engagement.
In addition to Colin’s presentation, the Board’s visit included a tour of the Inverness Castle Transformation Project, a Financial Foundations workshop focused on improving financial wellbeing, and meetings with local commercial customers. The bank also marked the launch of its 2024 charity partnership with CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland), with a commitment to raise £100,000 this year.
The Inverness visit forms part of Royal Bank of Scotland’s wider efforts to strengthen relationships with communities across Scotland.
Colin concluded, “We welcome this kind of direct engagement from a major institution like Royal Bank of Scotland. Their willingness to listen, learn and collaborate is exactly what’s needed to ensure our region continues to thrive.”
