Àban Enters 2026 with a New Home, Growing Impact and Community Support

The start of 2026 feels like an important moment in Àban’s journey, strengthened by the support of the local business community.

The Chamber Christmas lunch was a cracking way for us to round out last year. Nearly £800 was raised on the day, providing a welcome boost to Àban’s work with young people and families across the Highlands. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed.

In typical Chamber style, two significant new projects sprung from conversations around those lunch tables at Lochardil House Hotel – and that was even before the jam-packed Networking Lunch at the Drumossie in January.

This support arrives at a particularly exciting time for Àban, as we can now announce that we are moving into the downstairs at the Merkinch Welfare Hall. Many of you will know this as it’s been home to Inverness City Amateur Boxing Club since 2017. With Head Coach Laurie Redfern’s retirement, the expanded space will now offer improved facilities for our participants, volunteers and staff. A proper little outdoor centre right in the middle of town!

Alongside the move, Àban has published its 2025 Impact Report. This showcases the outcomes achieved through Àban’s programmes, the partnerships that have strengthened our work, and the moving stories of individuals we work with.

We also celebrate the appointment of Kate O’Brien to the role of Deputy Chief Officer. Kate grew up in Inverness before embarking on a stellar 17-year career with Outward Bound which took her all over the UK. Now she’s taking on a lead role creating local outdoor opportunities for her home community.

Finally, a request for help. As Àban settles into its new home, the charity is reaching out to the Chamber community for practical assistance.

To fully equip the new premises, we are seeking donations of office desks, office chairs, and particularly warehouse / storeroom racking or shelving. Businesses upgrading their offices, relocating, or holding surplus equipment are invited to get in touch with johannes@aban.scot .

Any support – large or small – will make a meaningful difference.
