Stephen Leckie, President of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Chair of the Scottish Tourism Alliance and Chairman and Chief Executive of Crieff Hydro is to be the keynote speaker at the 2022 Highland Business Awards.
Stephen Leckie is the fifth generation of his family to run the Crieff Hydro hotel and estate since the doors opened on Scotland’s maiden hydropathic establishment in 1868. The company is now the oldest trading registered company in Scotland.
Stephen was born and brought up in Perthshire and educated at Morrisons Academy and Strathallan School. Since taking the helm in 1994, Stephen has marshalled more than £60 million of investment to transform the property into a true leisure resort which competes on the international stage. The family has expanded and Crieff Hydro Limited now own or manage seven hotels, along with the operation of The Peel Café at Glentress Forest, Peebles. In addition, Taypark House in Dundee is an Associated Hotel.
In October 2019, he opened the company’s own 1881 – Gin Distillery and School in Peebles within the hotel, with its own water and botanicals. There are four types of Gins and the matching set of four Tonic 81’s. It’s the biggest residential Gin school in Britain.
Stephen has received a number of awards including the VisitScotland Scottish Thistle Award for his outstanding contribution to industry, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce / Scottish Business Honours – Entrepreneur of the Year Award and in 2019 he was presented with the Scottish Licensed Trade News Award for Industry Achievement.
