SFG SOFTWARE

Ben Hosie, Product Manager

sfG Software was founded in 2009 by David Garvie and Robert Murray, who saw a gap in the Highlands’ IT support market and wanted to provide the customer-focused, high-level service that businesses desired. sfG software has grown significantly over the last decade, but the concept of providing a customer-focused, high-quality service remains central to what they do. Their friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced IT Support Engineers look after their large and diverse customer base, while their software development team maintains and develops their own software products, sfG Scope and sfG MentorNet.

My name is Ben Hosie, and I work as the Product Manager for sfG Software. I first joined the team in 2018, where I was primarily responsible for sfG Scope. My role has become more varied as the company has grown and adapted, and I now manage our marketing, project work and onboarding of new software customers, providing valuable support to them throughout their journey via sfG Scope and sfG MentorNet.

We have 3 ‘branches’ of the sfG business;

sfG Software – IT support
Where it all began. We have a fantastic team of IT support technicians available to provide IT support to businesses throughout the Highlands, Islands & beyond. You can find a full list of our IT services on our website – http://www.sfgsoftware.com

sfG Scope – Job management software
Helping Highland businesses streamline their processes in order to save time, money and simplify administration.

sfG MentorNet – Our online mentoring platform
Helps boost productivity and management of mentoring programmes in universities, charities & businesses around the world.

The sfG team

I think it’s fair to say that the last few years have been extremely difficult for everyone, both in and out of work. In terms of the business, we were relatively lucky in that we have the ability to provide a flexible approach when it comes to our customers. We were keen to provide advice and insight to IT support customers who were suddenly finding themselves working from home for example.

On a more personal, business level, we remained honest and adaptable, working closely as a team and looking after our employees, as they are our most important asset and without them, there would be no sfG! Despite the hurdles thrown our way during the last couple of years, we have been able to welcome a lot of new people to the team, and we have continued to keep a focus on our company culture.

Like many businesses, we moved to homeworking during the covid pandemic. Even now, with businesses being able to move back into the office Monday to Friday, we have chosen a hybrid approach. This allows our team to choose whether they work from home or they come into the office, which we feel provides ‘the best of both worlds.’

We count ourselves incredibly lucky to have such a great team of talented individuals, who have all kept up their levels of productivity throughout all these changes and have been open with us to ensure sfG is an excellent place to work.

We have seen an exciting period of growth in the company recently, which has even led us to take on a trainee IT support technician, which we are very excited about! Over the next 12 months, we hope we can continue to see this positive growth both within the company and as a team. We look forward to building strong relationships with local businesses, and ensuring our team are happy and well looked after in order to provide the best level of support to customers across our service and product base.

Trainee IT Support Technician Josh and Managing Director David

We have a huge amount of experience and knowledge in our team already, however as with many sectors, the IT landscape is always evolving, so we will continue to learn and increase our knowledge base to make sure we can support our customers in the best way.

We see the Member of the Week Campaign as a fantastic opportunity for local business to share more about who they are and what they do. We aid a lot of Highland businesses with our IT Support, including the Chamber, and have software customers around the world, but we probably don’t speak about this a lot. So, we wanted to share a little bit more about sfG Software and what we are currently up to.

Not only does Member of the Week provide us with a platform to discuss our business and what we offer, but it’s also a good opportunity to provide insight into our business ethos and company culture, which are equally as important when seeking a company to do business with!

We really value the Chamber and how they support the local business community. They provide important and relevant information for local businesses, and we always enjoy attending their excellent events which allow us to continuously engage and network with other local businesses. Networking is a great opportunity to build trust and rapport with others within the area, so it’s great to see events back on the table, after the COVID hiatus!

My first top tip to maximise your Chamber membership is to network, network, network… Attending the Chamber’s events really does allow you to build an excellent group of contacts, which is always helpful in business!

The second is to utilise the Chamber – they are always available to help local businesses, so I’d urge anyone who needs advice, assistance or support to reach out to the Chamber, as they are an excellent resource.

The team from sfG are looking forward to exhibiting at the the upcoming Spotlight business to business exhibition on the 27 September, please do pop by our stall and say hello!
