The sounds of the Inverness Military Wives Choir will ring out across the city’s Victorian Market next weekend as singers come together to honour Scotland’s veterans.
The popular choir will take centre stage on Saturday 14 November from 1130am-1230pm, as part of the first Erskine Big Sing, bringing music, remembrance and community spirit to the heart of the Highland capital. Shoppers and visitors will be invited to enjoy a special performance near the market’s Food and Drink Hall.
The event is part of a Scotland-wide fundraising initiative organised by Erskine, Scotland’s leading Veterans charity, with choirs and singing groups joining forces to mark Remembrance and raise vital funds for former servicemen and women.
Money raised in Inverness will support Erskine Veterans Activity Centre North in Forres, which has become a lifeline for veterans across the region since opening its doors in December 2024.
More than 1,000 members have already joined the centre, which provides a welcoming place for veterans to forge friendships, enjoy activities and rediscover the camaraderie they experienced during their time in the Armed Forces.
Michael Parkes, Fundraising and Development Manager North at Erskine Veterans Charity, said, “There is something incredibly powerful about bringing people together through music, particularly at this time of year when we remember the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces.
“We are absolutely delighted to have the Inverness Military Wives Choir supporting our first Erskine Big Sing. Their connection to the Armed Forces community makes this a particularly special occasion, and I am sure their performance will strike a chord with everyone who comes along.
“For many veterans, leaving the Armed Forces can mean losing the friendships and sense of belonging that were such an important part of their lives. Our Activity Centre in Forres helps bring that back, providing a place where veterans can find friendship, support and a community that understands them.
“We are hugely grateful to the choir and the Victorian Market for getting behind us. We hope the people of Inverness will come along, enjoy some wonderful music and help us continue making a difference to the lives of Scotland’s veterans.”
