Visitors to Inverness are being given the rare opportunity to step inside one of the city’s most iconic buildings, with the launch of new guided tours by Visit Inverness Loch Ness and supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund.
Following the success of the ‘Town House Unlocked’ open day on 8 July 2026, the new schedule of tours will be led by an expert local guide and will allow visitors to uncover the stories, architecture and treasures that have been at the heart of the Highland capital for generations.
Tours will last approximately 60-75 minutes and will include the Main Hall, the Council Chamber, the ornate stairwell and the building’s historic stained-glass windows.

This special tour provides a rare opportunity to step inside and explore the building while hearing the stories that have helped shape the city. We’re grateful for the support of Inverness Common Good Fund to help improve accessibility to the Town House and look forward to once again welcoming visitors.”
Provost of Inverness and Area Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair said, “What an opportunity for locals and visitors to see inside the magnificent Inverness Town House. There are so many interesting paintings and artefacts that all tell a story of the local history. Some of my favourites are the paintings of Bonnie Prince Charlie and heroine Flora MacDonald side-by-side; the glorious chandeliers illuminating the main hall and chamber and the wonderful stained glass staircase. The first tours will take place on Tuesday 13 October and Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 10.00am. A programme of Christmas tours will follow on Tuesdays from 24 November to 15 December, with morning and afternoon sessions available.
Booking is now open online and a limited number of reduced rate tickets are also available for Highland residents.
