New chair at the helm of High Life Highland

High Life Highland has announced the appointment of Michael Boylan as the new Chair of its Charity Board, following its latest board meeting held on Wednesday 17 June. Michael succeeds Michael Golding, who steps down after two years in the role.

Currently Director of Strategy, People and Culture at UHI (University of the Highlands and Islands), Michael brings a wealth of leadership experience to the position. He joined the High Life Highland Charity Board in March 2025 and has been a member of the High Life Highland Trading Board since June 2022, serving as its Chair since 2023.

Following his election to the position of Chair by fellow Directors at the High Life Highland Board meeting in Inverness Library, Michael said, “I am absolutely delighted to accept the nomination from my fellow directors to become chair of the High Life Highland board and thank them very much. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Michael Golding who has done a fantastic job of leading the charity over the past two years.”

Handing over the reins, Michael Golding said, “It has been a privilege to serve as Chair of the High Life Highland Charity Board over the past two years. What has meant most to me is knowing the difference High Life Highland makes to people’s lives across the Highlands every day, through such a wide range of services. I am proud of the work we have done together, including the new strategy and the opening of The Inverness Castle Experience.

“I would like to thank the Board and the whole High Life Highland team for their commitment as we worked together to Make Life Better for the people of the Highlands. As I hand over the role, I congratulate Michael Boylan and wish him every success.”

Michael Boylan’s appointment as chair of the High Life Highland Charity Board leaves a vacancy within the High Life Highland Trading Board, with a new appointment expected to be made in September.

The directors of High Life Highland are responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organisation and they meet several times a year. They consist of four elected members from The Highland Council and eight independent directors, who bring with them a wealth of skills. High Life Highland is about to embark on a recruitment campaign to attract new voluntary directors for either the Charity Board or the Trading Board.
