With Scotland’s exports to the Netherlands valued at nearly £7 billion, it’s clear that Dutch markets hold huge potential for Scottish businesses. Now, thanks to a trade mission led by Inverness Chamber of Commerce, companies across Scotland have the chance to explore opportunities first-hand.
Taking place from 20 – 22 May 2025, this in-person mission to the Netherlands is part of the Scottish Government’s international trade programme, supported by the Scottish Chambers of Commerce. Open to businesses of all sizes and sectors, including those not currently Chamber members, it’s a unique opportunity to connect with international buyers, gain market insights, and establish a presence in one of Scotland’s most valuable trading destinations.
Why the Netherlands?
The Netherlands is already Scotland’s largest overseas export market, accounting for 20% (£6.9 billion) of total exports in the year ending September 2023. Even when excluding oil and gas, it remains Scotland’s third-largest market, with exports worth £1.7 billion.
Beyond the numbers, the Netherlands offers a business-friendly environment, a stable economy, and an appetite for high-quality Scottish products and services. Its proximity, cultural similarities, and the strategic advantage of Rotterdam – Europe’s largest port – make it an ideal entry point to the EU market.
A Springboard for International Growth
This mission is designed to help Scottish businesses break into the Dutch market with confidence. Participants will benefit from:
- Market Intelligence – Gain insights into industry trends and consumer demand.
- High-Value Networking – Meet potential buyers, distributors, and key decision-makers.
- Business Matchmaking – Take part in targeted meetings to showcase your products and services.
- EU Market Access – Position your business for long-term European trade success.
For businesses looking to test the waters internationally, the Netherlands is an ideal starting point – receptive, well-connected, and already a key trading partner.
