Highland Business Week: 10 Years of Connecting and Growing Together

By Paula Nicol, Head of Events & Deputy Chief Executive, Inverness Chamber of Commerce

As we mark the 10th year of Highland Business Week, it’s great to look back and see how the event has evolved into one of the most important dates in the Highland business calendar. What started as something relatively modest – but was an ambitious plan for what was a very small Chamber team at the time – has continued to grow and evolve into a key moment for local businesses to connect, learn, and celebrate success. While we’re proud of how far we’ve come, this anniversary is really a celebration of the incredible business community that makes it all possible.

At its heart, Highland Business Week is about connection. In today’s fast-paced world of online meetings and webinars, it’s easy to forget how valuable it is to meet face-to-face. We know that business relationships in the Highlands are often built on trust and personal rapport, and there’s no better way to strengthen those ties than by meeting in-person. Whether it’s at Highland Spotlight, where businesses forge new partnerships, or at the Highland Business Awards, where we take the time to celebrate each other’s successes, these moments are what make the week so special.

The needs of our business community have always driven the shape of Highland Business Week. Since officially launching in 2013, with two years missed due to the pandemic restrictions, we’ve listened closely to what matters to you, whether it’s exploring new markets, finding the right talent, or simply exchanging ideas with like-minded professionals. The feedback from our members is clear: the value of stepping away from the day-to-day and immersing ourselves in a week of learning, networking, and inspiration is irreplaceable.

Looking back, it’s also a time to reflect on the resilience and innovation that Highland businesses continue to demonstrate. Through economic challenges, changing market conditions, and the digital shift, our business community has not only survived but thrived. The stories of success and perseverance we hear throughout the week serve to remind us that we’re stronger together.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not just looking back – we’re looking ahead. We remain committed to supporting the ambitions of Highland businesses, helping them unlock opportunities, and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. And while the format of business may change over time, the importance of coming together as a community will remain.

So, as we enter our 10th Highland Business Week, I invite you to join us in making it not just an event on the calendar, but a real reflection of the strength and spirit of our business community. Here’s to the next 10 years of collaboration, connection, and success!
