£10,000 Match funding boost announced for Inverness Airport Run the Runway 2026

Supporters taking part in this year’s Run the Runway event at Inverness Airport will have the chance to double their impact, thanks to an exciting £10,000 match funding pledge from Heather’s Heroes.

Returning on Saturday 22nd August 2026, the much-loved fundraising event in aid of cancer charity Maggie’s Highlands will see participants take on a unique midnight 5k walk, jog, or run along Inverness Airport’s runway, guided only by the runway lights.

This year, every pound raised by participants will go even further, with Heather’s Heroes committing to match funds raised up to £10,000, giving supporters the opportunity to make twice the difference for people affected by cancer across the Highlands.

Allan Dallas Jnr, Heather’s Heroes Trustee, said, “Heather’s Heroes are delighted to be supporting Maggie’s Highland with their Run the Runway event this year. It is always a great event and gives people a unique opportunity to run on the Inverness Airport runway whilst raising funds for the centre. Maggie’s Highland really do support people when they need it most, and we hope our commitment to match fund the first £10,000 raised by the event will give everyone an added incentive to maximise their fundraising”.

Since its inception, the event has raised more than £300,000 for cancer support charity Maggie’s Highlands.

Participants of all abilities are encouraged to sign up, with entry priced at just £15 for adults and £10 for children, and a suggested sponsorship target of £115. This year’s highest fundraiser will be the lucky recipient of a pair of return flights on the Inverness-Dublin route, kindly donated by Emerald Airlines.

Maggie’s Highlands, based in the grounds of Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, provides a warm and welcoming space where people with cancer, and their family and friends, can access free expert support. With no appointments, no waiting lists and no time limits, Maggie’s offers vital practical, emotional and psychological support when it is needed most.

With a fantastic atmosphere, strong community spirit and the added incentive of matched funding, this year’s Run the Runway promises to be bigger and more impactful than ever.

Dan Mason, Airport Manager said, “We’re proud to host Run the Runway once again and support the fantastic work of Maggie’s Highlands. Heather’s Heroes’ very generous match funding pledge will make this year’s event even more impactful, helping every pound raised go even further. We look forward to welcoming participants for another memorable evening on the runway.”
